About LaudWords

How it works

There are many moments when a Laud Crowd can make a difference. The one that inspired us to create LaudWords was a farewell — when someone is leaving a group or team. Even in the most positive transitions these goodbyes can be emotional for everyone involved. Like a modern version of the traditional “big card”, a Laud Crowd helps capture those heartfelt expressions - but it goes further. With built-in features to connect and reflect, it helps people stay meaningfully connected, at a time when it can feel like connections are being lost.

This example walks through how it works in this kind of moment.

Someone is leaving the team
or worse - they’ve been let go from the group!

But what can you do?

Get Laud!

Create a LaudWords account with your email address or a google account, and Start a Laud Crowd

Select a theme,
specify the receivers name and email,
and an occasion and title.

and bring in the Crowd

Add everyone you know who interacts with the receiver.

You set the Laud Crowd options, importantly:
Privacy setting to determine how crowd members can invite or suggest other people, and
The date and time (the “publish time”) for this Laud Crowd to be sent to the receiver.

And finally you click “Send invites” to notify your Crowd to begin adding messages.

Crowd members add a message for the receiver

They can also add "signals" to their message, to let the receiver know ways to stay in touch, including any preferred contact. Signals available relate to the Laud Crowd occasion - for example a work farewell occasion may have a "Happy to provide a reference" signal, or another "Let's catch up for a coffee". Crowd member's signal selections are made available only to the receiver.
Finally, depending on the Laud Crowd Privacy setting you chose, Crowd members can add or suggest additional people to join the Crowd.

The Laud Crowd is ready for publish

The receiver is notified with a link to their Laud Crowd - which will look something like the example below. The Laud Crowd presents all messages from the Crowd in a format that works well viewed on a phone, or a computer, or a huge wall screen. The Laud Crowd also provides the receiver some easy tools to follow up with individual members at any time in the future, based on contact signals enabled by each member.

The LaudWords team

The creators of LaudWords are a very small but passionate bunch of professionals, engineers and artists, from around the globe.

Our core development team includes Simon, Martin, and Yasheng in Sydney; Kesia in Jakarta; Peter in Delft; Dharma in Kathmandu; and Nick in Byron Bay. We’ve also had invaluable HR guidance, testing, and translation support from a wider group of contributors. Some of the code, sweat and tears came from volunteered efforts - people who leaned in to support a shared vision: a better way to honour those navigating difficult, and sometimes unexpected life transitions.

All of us have, at some point, been impacted by company redundancies - a reality that seems to be growing more common. We believe people deserve to be seen, heard, and uplifted - especially in their most uncertain moments.
